Cheap and Easy

Though I'm sure people are eagerly awaiting the next installment of What We Ate, I'm afraid there's nothing new to report in the past few days. While we desperately need to go to the supermarket, we've managed to avoid the ordeal pretty well by subsisting on takeout, meals cooked by others, and Mysterious Things Found in the Freezer. The highlight for me, really, is that we've eaten two boxes of frozen pierogis so far (with fried onions and sour cream, of course), and there's still a third box left! Other meals have included: yellow squash casserole and chocolate ricotta pie at Nicole's (thank goodness for home cooked food), hot wings and fried mushrooms from Chicken Noodle (best buffalo wings in the Ritt Square/Grad Hospital/Avenue of the Arts area), Near East pasta (really a shining example in the normally lackluster family of instant-pasta-and-sauce meals), and the aforementioned pierogis.

Of course, we did go to an apple orchard yesterday to pick apples and buy pumpkins, but the pick-your-own part of the orchard was closed and we had to make do with apples purchased from the farm store -- as well as, of course, apple cider donuts, apple cider, and apple butter. So there will definitely be pie in our future, as well as possibly some toasted pumpkin seeds. Stay tuned!
